Art, a matter of the heart.

Ever since I was young, I loved being creative. I loved making things, whether these were drawings of houses, or building a little house of paper and tape myself. Being creative is kind of my comfort zone. It feels natural, as if it's just supposed to be that way.

And although I have always known the importance of art in my life, sometimes you just get that little nudge that makes you realize again how in important it is. I have been a volunteer for Fabrica art gallery since I moved here. And right from the start I loved it. Being surrounded by artists, by people who understand your hunger for creativity and see the world a bit more like you do.

Today we gave out first Sunday art workshop. Volunteers are able to join the workshop group and can give their own art workshop to people who pop in to the gallery (brilliant, right?). My idea will be carried out in two weeks from now.
I was taking photos that will be up on the gallery blog soon. I was also talking to a few of the volunteers, who are often art students or artists themselves. And during this conversation, we talked about how art is a part of our lives, no matter if we get any money for it. We volunteer, we spend a lot of time on meetings, workshops, shifts and editing of the magazine. Not because we have to, not because we think people expect us to do it, not because we have lots of time left or because we 'should do some type of volunteering'. But simply, because art has a deeper meaning to us. We all share this value that art is a part of who we are, how we identify ourselves and how we want to see ourselves and our world around us. We choose to be involved in art, because it inspires us, feeds our hunger for creativity and fuels our inner need for questions and answers. It makes us think, it makes us doubt and often it makes us question. But either way, art is what we breathe. Whether we want to or not. To some people it might not make sense. But art does not have to make sense, cause it's a matter of the heart.

Enjoy the photos!

Carpe Diem,

Yashira
