I really wanted to see some of Australia's background and check out some Australian art. These art pieces usually date back from around 1850 onwards. For me, this is sometimes a bit difficult to take in. The history in Europe goes back such a long way. We have stories, paintings and artefacts dating back from super long ago, which somehow really contributes to our identity, common heritage and the feeling we have as Europeans (or just Dutchies for that matter).
And when I'm in Australia, I notice that they do have an abundance of culture (Seriously, not only that weird slang), which is beautiful to see. But I can't help but saying that I miss that piece of history. Luckily the art gallery was able to fill a bit of that hunger for me, but I am not quite convinced yet. Maybe it's just my cultural heritage alarm bells ringing (I hear you non-art-fans thinking: what is up with her? No worries, it's just an art kinda thing)
So, being in the art gallery I am surrounded by such a variety of people. Young kids, middle-aged hippies, grannies and paps. Solo-travellers and even business-men just on their lunch break soaking up some art.
And the funny thing is, there was quite some 'weird' art in the gallery. Art you can't really understand. Funny looking art, art that doesn't make any kind of sense or art that makes you think 'Why is this even called art?'. And still, there were heaps of different people enjoying that kind of art (Well, not 100 per cent sure they were loving it, but at least they were there giving it a shot). It makes me realize that art IS for everyone. Art CAN be weird. And still many different kinds of people are enjoying it. I guess as long as you embrace a little of your own weirdness, you can also embrace a little of weirdness that is called art.
I rest my case, have a look at some photos!
